At the end of every legislative session, Creative Loafing hands out the “Golden Sleaze Awards.” The faux honors are given to state lawmakers who proposed the worst ideas during the 40-day session. Some pols, such as state Rep. Earl Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs, consider the awards a badge of honor. We gave him a shout-out for trying to expand a scholarship program that allows state money to find its way to private schools. You might have read about it in the New York Times.

I loved that about ag-town papers.‬ A guy would bring in a pumpkin that looked like Mickey Mouse, somebody would drop off 50 pages of typewritten pages about the Vatican poisoning the fluoride or whatever, an old lady would bring in the obit for her husband and spend two hours telling funny stories about World War II, etc. And the angry people would come in, and we’d always send them straight to the publisher’s office: “Oh yes, he looks FORWARD to talking to you about why the paper backed your lifelong enemy for the town manager vacancy.””

I took my beau on an introductory Beltline jaunt this afternoon, and I was delighted at his amazement when we made it from Inman Park to Murder Kroger in no time. Also, I’m happy to see that this little building on Ralph McGill Blvd is being renovated into a restaurant. I used to live next door at Block Lofts and always thought it would be charming renovated. Of course, now the Historic Fourth Ward Park is a block away and people are seeing the true potential of the neighborhood.
